Columbia Spirit Bears Soccer Futsal Season 2024 Recap (Girls)

The Columbia Girls soccer futsal team have just had another very good season. With many of the players who tasted the success of last year’s heroic run to the ISTAA league championship finals returning, this year’s soccer futsal club began with a lot of anticipation. Of course, there were also a lot of new members ready to wear Columbia red as well. Our girls were ready to play hard, and in typical Columbia fashion, ready to have a lot of fun too. As a matter of fact, soccer practice sometimes seemed like a social club this year.

The girls improved well over the term and played competitive matches against longtime opponents K-international school, our rivals LFIT (the French school), and our new friends DSTY(the German school). This year we entered the ISTAA league U18 tournament with high expectations. Columbia won the first game 4-0. In t he second game the girls played well, were winning/controlling play, and hit the post several times. In the last minutes, the other team’s ace scored 2 goals and we lost the game. Our players were shell-shocked and we couldn’t recover to make it to the semifinal. That’s sports! After the disappointment, the team reflected on the fun season and had a great game against the French the following week. Although the outgoing G12s,(captain Riana, ace keeper Minami, and soccer aficionado Kasumi), will be greatly missed, the girls will be ready for revenge next year! Go Spirit Bears! (Mr. Bentz)
