Columbia I.S. Graduates Getting Settled at University

Columbia International School graduates this past Spring are off to their University life with nearly 90% going overseas to Canada mostly but also to the US, Thailand, England, Australia and Switzerland.  This year’s graduates had achieved wonderful things in their high school careers including both academic and co-curricular excellence.  It is evident by the amount of scholarships they grabbed up upon University entrance from among others Temple University and the Canada-Japan Leadership Fund awarded from the Canadian Embassy how bright they are.  Now as these graduates become alumni and the youngest children enter school so the Columbia education cycle continues.  As they start their higher educational endeavors at the University of Toronto, the University of British Columbia, Temple University and McGill University to name a few, we wish them luck in all their challenges and in their further future goals.

Student Diversity at Columbia International School

Over the past year, Columbia International School has seen a big increase in foreign enrollments!  We went from 18 countries represented in our student body to now 23 countries! This is due to the quality and stability of the Saitama area, our Kinder to High School Ontario, Canada education and the introduction of a new diversity scholarship program.
Columbia International School has adopted a new “Student Diversity Scholarship”. The Diversity Scholarship Program is dedicated to awarding a reduction of school fees by up to 50%. These scholarships were created to increase diversity on the Columbia campus and give ambitious students, who might otherwise find the opportunity unattainable, a quality education from Ontario, Canada. The Scholarship Program includes the “Columbia Scholarship” for applicants to Columbia and the “Honour Scholarship” for students of Columbia. Following a review of applications received, checking school records, and an interview, the Principal will select the students to be recipients of the scholarships.
These scholarships will be awarded to students for one academic year with renewal options up to graduation.
The school will respect the confidentiality of the scholarship recipients’ personal circumstances.
If interested in applying for the Student Diversity Scholarship or obtaining further information, please contact Columbia International School.

New Kindergarten Program Start

After 25 years of International and Canadian Education in Japan Columbia International School has finally added the last piece of their 15 year program with the start of their Kindergarten division.

The Kindergarten program had a pre-start in September with 7 children.  Initially most children are coming from International preschools or are from dual ethnicity families.  The program includes K1, K2 and K3 which is for ages 3, 4 and 5 respectively.  There are 20 students per class with a head teacher and an assistant.  Columbia International School in preparation of having younger children on campus has added or changed a few features including; booster seats and port-a-potties on the bus; resourced our uniforms to include smaller sizes now being shipped from the United States; added an indoor tumble and play gym; came online with 24 computers for the 1st lower school computer lab and re-sized the school lunch.  The curriculum is as all Columbia’s programs are using the provincial curriculum of Ontario, Canada.  The official start of the program will be April 2013 and they are now accepting applications and holding interviews.
